Re: Marinekorps Flandern
AT the beginning of this thread are two extremely nice photos of soldiers from the 1st and 2nd See Bataillonen. They are misidentified as being from the Matrosen Regiments, which were part of the naval divisions, but were comprised of sailors, coming for the most part from the Seewehr.

Re: Marinekorps Flandern
Not trying to throw a wet blanket on this very interesting thread, but have you noticed that many of the unattributed photos that are shown here have been lifted from Ebay and perhaps elsewhere on the internet? It is obvious in some cases (where the Ebay seller of the photo has added his name to the photo as copy protection), but in others it is not. For instance, the original studio photo of the "Marinekorps Flandern" sailor with the Laufbahn patch on his sleeve is part of my collection. While we all download photos from websites, friends and other sources for our personal archives, I think it is important to remember that the original images do belong to others and taking credit for them is a bit less than honest. I know it is not easy to know or remember where a photo came from or who now owns it, but I think a minimum would be to say that it is from Ebay or at least not the property of the poster. As you can imagine, it is somewhat perplexing to see photographs from your personal collection (that you paid for) posted freely on the internet by others who happened to lift it. I do not have a pollyanna view of what happens on the Internet. I know that when it comes to these sorts of things, the Net is the wild west, where anything goes. But be that as it may, I still think it's a shame we can't take the extra moments it would take to give the readers a clue as to where these photos are really coming from. Just my two cents.

Fair comments Chip.
We have tried to improve posting standards since this thread was first brought up 5 years ago.Normally all photos should have a source mentioned. The onus is on the poster to provide this.Either they should mention ebay(the seller also if possible),another forum with the poster's name,or the book or magazine it goes from.Otherwise we assume the poster owns the photo.
One shortcoming of this section is that it doesn't have a full time host(this will hopefully be soon recitified) and better "policing" of this requirement will be conducted.

Peter

Re: MarineKorps Flandern
Here's a good example on how it should be done,in this case from another forum.

..the photo is the end of the line the other end being on the Swiss border. That's the ocean in the background...

Hi Chp,
I hope You are not referring to my first pic in this topic concerning 'original studio photo Marinekorps Flandern' because I also have an original studio photo.
It is true that pics of EBAY are shown in Forums, on this topic one put an entire series of EBAY fotos, in small size, without referring to EBAY.
I had to put my name on the pics in the end, because I saw pics and maps of mine used on front pages of foreign websites, without source given!
Regards,
Cnock

No one is questioning your honesty in this matter.
There is enough evidence around that you have a massive collection of Flanders photos that you are more than willing to share(on this and other forums) and we thank you for that.
