I just finished restoring a "sporterized" Gewehr 98 I bought in 1960. One of the first things I did was to try to mount / fix a dress bayonet I received as a gift some time ago. It didn't fit. The lug is about 12 mm wide but the slot on the bayonet is too narrow, about 10 mm wide.
Today I took a look at the bayonet. It has no markings to be seen unless yo remove the grips. There is a large 647 stamped across the handle area and nearby, 32.
It has bakelite grips. The blade is 12.5 cm. The whole bayonet is 36 cm. Here are some pictures.
What have I got here. It came with a nice dress bayonet scabbard.

Here is the bayonet slot.

I can answer my own question about mounting the bayonet. Dress bayonets were not intended to be mounted. The slot for the lug is intentionally too Narrow to fit a rifle.
