The attached article describes the operation of the 713th US Army Railroad Operating Battalion in Italy during the 1943 - 1944 period. The original article was printed in the 1944 edition of the USA magazine 'Railway Age’ which was the main railroad industry publication.
Due to the attachment file size I had to break up each page into separate attachments. I will post each of the remaining pages in separate posts over the following days.
Some of the content of this article was reprinted in General Carl Gray’s book about the US Army’s WW2 Military Railroad Operations titled 'Railroading In Eighteen Countries’.
I’ve placed a duplicate of this post in this website's section ‘USA 1919 -1945'.

Hi
If anyone wants to read more about the 713th ROB or the operation of the railways during the war, then Steel Rails to Victory ( A photographic History of the Railway Operations during WW2) by Ron Ziel is worth a look. Obviously full of pictures but lots of interesting text etc.
Regards
