The attached article describes the operation of a number of US Army Railroad Operating Battalions in North Africa and Italy during the 1942 to early 1944 period. The original article was printed in the July 8, 1944 edition of the USA magazine 'Railway Age’ which was the main railroad industry publication.
Due to the attachment file size I had to break up each page into separate attachments. This post contains the first three pages. I will post the two remaining pages in a separate posts later.
Some of the content of this article was reprinted in General Carl Gray’s book about the US Army’s WW2 Military Railroad Operations titled 'Railroading In Eighteen Countries’.
I will place a duplicate of this post in this website's section ‘WW2 In Africa & Mediterranean'.
