My grandfather picked this up in the war. I don't know much about how he got it, but I was hoping to gather some historical information about it. What do you guys know? Let me know if you need more pictures.
Thanks for your help.

Actual Walther made P.38 by the AC on the slide (1943)
Barrel is NOT original to this pistol as you can see by the different serial number

Re: Can you tell me about P38?
Ive owned four of these AC 1943 series, and several BYT's Take it to a legit gun range and shoot off a magazine.Have it checked out by safety officers of the range first and do a pre check of all the working parts, Very good stopping power, solid heavy pistol. was a time where you could get a wartime used one for under a couple hundred bucks, and closer to $100.00 NOT anymore!!! I bought my last AC1943 for $75.00, fired it afew times, sold it for very tidy profit
Re: Can you tell me about P38?
RSOs won't be able to tell you if it's safe to shoot. GUNSMITHS do that. It comes down to tolerances and proper head spacing.
Odd that the barrel is not matching, as that would be corrected (re-numbered) by a depot or a mobile armorer in the form of a Waffenwerkstatt if it was done during war time.

He who lives by the sword, should train with it frequently.
Re: Can you tell me about P38?
Seen many P38s over the years with MM barrels.
I have one now.
Never saw a renumbered example.
Most of these period pieces are more tolerant of head spacing and other issues than many want to believe.
No guarantee that the average smith has any expertise on them.
