If I could make a suggestion, it would be to have a look at Michael Akkerman 's 'Bloody Omaha' video on Youtube.
Actually it's very interesting that according to this video and book mentioned, this "bunker" has no roof actually.

Dirk, am I right that according to your plan it also looks like there was no concrete roof?

Spookily enough I've just been looking at the Doppelschartenstand thread wondering if this bunker was there. The plan is much appreciated good sir.
PS. Dirk. It's the machine gun position/ bunker overlooking WN72 that is in the artwork mentioned that's shown as being open topped. I had only seen images of it from front and below prior to this.
You can see the 8.8cm bunker with the anti tank wall across the drawer in front and below the position, and the 5cm bunker to it's left and below.
I'm sure that there is mention within this video of a cover to shelter the troops during any bombardment which was removed when it was in action.
The impression the image gives is of a trench reinforced with a concrete screen with embrasures for the weapon's. The frontage is not straight but angled.
A book by one of the soldiers manning the position is mentioned in the text beneath the image.

Thanks. Experience has led me to believe it's wise to defer to the man who's put his boots on the ground. I've only ever been able to find images of the Doppel MG bunkers at WN71, which have the same angled frontage and are most definitely roofed.

Hey,
thanks a lot for the plans.
You help me a lot.
However i still have some questions about 5 cm kwk bunker.
1) do you have vertical dimensions?

2) Is it somehow possible to determine the outside measures of the right side (if you look from the sea)?
I know that it was converted into... garage, so its hard to say, however from the other plans, from topic about Doppelschartenstand (btw thanks a lot for your plans posted there) it looks like the main battle compartment is more or less symmetrical.
Do you guys think we can assume that it is similar with the WN 72 one?

BTW some time ago i got recommendation for the book from DAWA series "Die 5cm KwK im Atlantikwall". The Guy who recommend it to me said that there is a plan of this bunker in this book. Do any of you have this book and can "confirm" those news?

Best regards
Konrad.

hello conrad,

our draiwing are to scale, Vf schartenstand 5 cm Kwk = 1 meter of thickness (wall) and no the kamfraum is asymètrique. both sides of the firing embrasures are oriented to take the best beach under are all armored fires landing.

Me belfra-team
