1943-early 1944 Hornisse and Pak 43 shootouts compared
The 519 and 655 s.H.Pz.Jg.Abt. with Hornisse had a better exchange ratio against Soviet armor than the 664th Abt. with Pak 43 artillery. The following pages give details that reveal issues both types of long 8.8 cm guns faced. Attachment page 2 shows a 655th Hornet in summer 1943 and the unit's emblem painted in black and white on its right front fender.

The rest of this document's comparison and a photo of Lt. Albert Ernst with his crew including gunner Unteroffizier Herbert Colany and the 519th emblem. Ernst, born November 15,1912, received the RK on January 22,1944 and shot 50 Russian tanks while in his Hornisse.
