Iron cross 2nd class - fake or original?

Purchase this over 60 years ago through a mail order brochure. Anyone here old enough to remember those? Pre internet.
I’d like opinions as to authenticity. Thanks!

Does it appear to be made in 3 parts, two Maltese crosses with a separate iron core?
