Gas stations 1945

Post by Pawel Libner » 18 Nov 2021 18:47

Good Day
I’m a military modeller. I’m working on a diorama with a group of ex-soldiers and some vehicles at the end of WWII. Idea is, that they are looking for fuel. I know that due to the fuel shortage there were restrictions in sale for civilian customers. But how about gas stations? They were simply closed, or maybe still working for military men and police? Is it possible that soldiers from my dio would be able to find any fuel at the civilian station? I like vintage Art Deco Shell stations as seen in Austria, but is it realistic? Still open in 1945? If not in a Germany maybe Austria, Switzerland, Czech Lands… ?
Regards
Pawel

Pawel Libner,

The most complexe topic in German language about historical gas stations was started here already in the year 2002:

Alte Tankstellen / Petroliana in Deutschland https://www.geschichtsspuren.de/forum/v ... .php?t=139

If you want to see the very many photos, then you must register there, and introduce yourself please.
It's worth it!

Hans

P.S. German language forum, but english replies welcome, as far as I remember ?

Hello

Pawel,

the topic there is already 78 pages strong, in the forum just click on "Registrieren", thats it.
Forget about a typical "German" username, it does not matter.

Good luck !

I have tried... really hard. Either all admins are on long vacations. Or they are simply not interested in new members.

These are very good photos.
The last one shows Kurfürstenpark Garagen in Halensee at Kurfürstendamm 119/120.
Nice view of Hotel Kronprinz in the background behind the car.

The same area in 2008 from Google. Hotel Kronprinz lost corner towers...
