General Wilhelm Reinhard

Post by VJK » 18 Jul 2003 20:12

Hi!

The 2 pics attached are captioned General Reinhard and taken pre war. However, there does not appear to be any resemblance to Gen.d.Inf. Wilhelm Reinhard (attached). Can anyone shed any light on the mystery please?

Regards,

REINHARD

Post by Georges JEROME » 18 Jul 2003 22:21

the General of the 3rd picture is not the same, simply because

the Reichskriegerführer Gen. der Inf. Wilhelm REINHARD was never an active general
he retired as Oberst
he was ranked char. General der Infanterie for his 70 birthday in 1939.

I think picture Nr. 3 is General Walther Reinhardt, KG Wehrkreis V, 1924

Hi!

Thank you Georges and Philmil For your replies. It was my mistake - pic Nr. 3 is of course GdI Walther Reinhardt. The 1st 2 pics would then seem to be of Wilhelm Reinhard, holder of the Pour le Mérite, who according to some sources retired as a Generalleutnant and was then made char. Gen.d.Inf for his 70th birthday. I haven't heard of any instance whereby an Oberst was made char. GdI, missing out the ranks in between.
I attach a pic of Wilhelm Reinhard as an SS-Obergruppenführer. Does anyone please have a bio of his army career?

Sorry, my mistake again - the pic is of course of Reinhard as as SS Gruppenfuehrer, he became Ogruf. later.

Hi,

Sorry to correct you but here, Reinhard is seen with SS-Brigadeführer rank. As SS-Ehrenführer?

Is this last man the same as the one of the two first pictures? It's not obvious to me...

Reinhard is not wearing Brigadeführer collar tabs but the Obergruppenführer collar tabs worn before 7th April 1942.

best wishes

he's definitely wearing SS-Brigadenführer insignias; this type of mistake shouldn't be made by a specialist like you!!! :P

Oops! ;)
I am sorry! I really thought I saw three oak leaves when I commented yesterday... ;)

Ah damn it - doesn't matter as long as we learn from our mistakes :)

Best wishes

Dear friends, according to the excellent site "Axis Biographical Research", General Wilhelm Adolf Reinhard was awarded on 4.8.1918 with the Commander Cross with Swords of the Hohenzollern House Order (he earned the Knight Cross on 1916).

I think that this award was a very high grade and was granted infrequently. On August of 1918 he was only Oberstleutnant. And I've never seen a picture of Wilhelm Reinhard wearing this neck order. So, Is it possible that there's a mistake on "Axis Biographical Research", and only won the Knight's Cross of Hohenzollern House Oder?

Thanks for any answer.

Bonjour,

See other photo, the last medal on ribbonbar is a Japanischer Orden des Heiligen Schatzes 4. Klasse

Could anyone give Reinhard's a.D. and z.V. promotions and assignments? There is a lot of conflicting data circulating in the web.
