The march by Prof. Schmidt was also the first official campaign tune of WWII. It contained a song in trio, written by Heinrich Gutberlet with music by Dr Eugen Naumann, known as "Lied der Deutschen in Polen" or "Feuerspruch".

There were several variations in the lyrics - sometimes it started with one verse and sometimes with the other. Posted below is a version starting with "Was auch immer werde: Steh' zur Heimaterde", in contrast to "Was auch daraus werde: Steh' zur deutschen Erde", seen above. The below version of the lyrics is also the one that was always recorded, only with "Was dich auch bedrohe" as the first verse.
