I thought Biber was referring to this Pic posted by Ernie Primeau
Have I got it completely wrong? . . . Biber??
Actually, you're probably right! :)

Couple different spots referred to in this discussion. The balcony in question was for the two bedrooms on the floor above the bedrooms for AH and EB. One of these was Gretl Braun's room, called the "Türkenzimmer." I'm pretty sure this was the room above EB's bedroom (marked "1" here), but it could have been the adjacent room, which was evidently used as a guest room. Photos of this room are generally identified in publications as EB's room, but you can tell the difference because this room has a balcony door, and EB's room had no balcony. (We discussed this before in this thread, where I posted these plans, and CPB posted a photo from his collection that ID'd this room as the Türkenzimmer and Gretl's room.)

The room above Hitler's office, which also had a balcony, was the "Untersbergzimmer" (so-named because of its view toward the Untersberg mountain, just as the Türkenzimmer was named because it looked toward the former Hotel zum Türken). This room, actually a suite of rooms, was used by Rudolf Hess until he flew off to Scotland. I've seen some other photos in addition to these, but I can't locate them now.

Here is part of the house plan showing the Untersbergzimmer, a suite with living room, bedroom, bath, and "Loggia" balcony. I have always thought this seemed a much nicer room even than Hitler's, judging from the plans. This room also had a nice brown tile Kachelofen.

The room just above on the plan was one of the two discussed earlier - I believe this was a guest room adjacent to the Türkenzimmer. You can see the balcony door and part of the balcony there as well.

Note that the room at the upper right of this plan view also had a Balkon. This was one of the rooms in the upper part of the old Haus Wachenfeld section, generally used by Hitler's secretaries.

Geoff's right, there are indeed a couple of different spots under discussion here.

1. Br James started off talking about the balcony on the eastern wing with this: "I believe that balcony was part of the final renovation/expansion of the Berghof". This is referring to the 1938 extension which was the final one done.

2. Max was asking about the top floor balcony on the main building.

I hope that clears it up.

Br James started by quoting Biber and then going on to talk about the East wing balcony.
It will be interesting to hear which balcony Biber was actually referring to.

Not the same moment but is the same place that Geoff posted in a color postcard. In the back says "Wohnraum" by Hoffmann.

I always thought that this photo during the construction of the Berghof was of the main balcony. Now I realize that it is a side balcony. In the picture, Gretl Braun at the left and Marion Schönemann.

Eva Braun´s photo from NARA.

These last notes on this thread are excellent! The photo just above in note #6429 is really exciting, especially since I didn't have any idea that that balcony on the south side of the main house was even there! That whole area under the main roof's overhang is always in shadows in photos, but to see Gretl Braun and Marion Schönemann standing there is wonderful!

It's also great to see the information about the "Türkenzimmer" and the "Untersbergzimmer," plus the fact that Hess would stay in the "Untersbergzimmer" suite, which included the balcony above Hitler's study, when he was a guest at the Berghof. Wonderful information indeed -- many thanks to Geoff, Helly and all who continue to provide such interesting notes for us!

Thank you very much friend, for your kind words! Geoff actually inspires me with his idea of presenting the before and after. Every day we learn more! From that same period, here AH with another unidentified gentleman, inspecting the clean work on that terrace.

"Every day we learn more!" I couldn't agree more heartily, Helly!! Thanks so much for your latest addition...though sorry to say that I have no idea who that unidentified gentleman is, either...

Keep 'em coming, friends!

Sorry for not replying sooner, we had holiday weekend and I didn't bring my laptop home.

I was referring to the small balcony above AH's bedroom.
