Suddenly in Walter Frentz's photo book you can see - it happened to me - color photos of moments and people that I knew, but had not seen in that presentation. These three are the best books on the subject.
Good afternoon Helly,
the book, you were referring to is "Zeitgeschichte in Farbe - Hitlers Berghof 1928-1945" (Arndt Verlag) ? :?

"Larry Adler
and not
Der Bingle"

Lets agree to disagree, Max...I still see Luther Adler and Bing Crosby in that photo!

"New postcard I received today, titled "Eingang" or entrance.
It is the main entrance to the house. dated October 24, 1943."

Very nice view, Helly, which I've seen before. What seems unusual is that the inside surface of the arched columns which created the entrance porch did not include the stonework effect which was seen on all three other sides. I suppose this could have been done in order to brighten up the porch a bit, but it does look just a bit odd from the porch side, almost like the stonework was just a veneer!

It is well documented that Benny, Bergman and Larry Adler made a USO tour together *

I can find no reference to Luther Adler having made a European visit in 1945.

Adler identified as Larry.
The figure [holding a pipe] on the right is the same person [also holding pipe?] on the left of the interior shot.
He is obviously not Crosby, although I can agree that he looks like Crosby in that first shot.**

Cheers
* Adler and Bergman were an "item" at this time.

I concede, Max. These last photos clarify what I had mistakenly seen in the earlier photo.

Cheers,

Party on the Obersalzberg:

Any one have more info on this? I don't have a subscription to the paper, but story seems interesting, which tunnel? Exactly where did this party take place-'owner of the gallery'?

A friend of mine told me this was in the Obertalstollen. Which surprised me, due to the difficulties of getting all that equipment and all those people down there.

That postcard pic made me interested to know if the garage was blown up? Or just buried? I was wondering if those stone walls of the garage and also on the side there might be just buried and not destroyed?

For lots of info about the garage search this page http://www.thirdreichruins.com/berghof.htm for all occurences of the word "garage". It goes on to say that "many of the stones were saved and used during the construction of the Wegmacher Kapelle wayside chapel, north of Berchtesgaden" which you will find if you enter "Wegmacher Kapelle" into Google Maps.

The garage was blown up in 1952 with all the house I think.

No it survived until 1995. For lots of info about the garage search this page http://www.thirdreichruins.com/berghof.htm for all occurences of the word "garage". Obersalzberg news ... electric buses powered by batteries are being tested on the Kehlsteinstrasse for taking passengers to and from the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagles Nest). These will likely replace the diesel buses soon.

In a recent German TV documentary, a German architect described Hitler's own building plans as pure "dilettantism":

"The exhaust fumes from the garage below continuously flowed through the large hall..!", that was his statement.
But it's interesting that people are still speculating about the Berghof...

All this shit is still an issue, very surprising, that something like this is still present in the German media....
Not sure about the source, maybe later.. ? :?
