It is a US variant developped on basis of the French 155mm GPF gun illustrated here and introduced in 1917.

I can for the moment provide info about the French 155mm GPF :

Canon de 155 mm GPF (Grande Puissance Fillioux)
Type : Field gun
Crew : 10 men
Caliber : 155 mm
Weight in action : 11200 kg
ROF : 2 rpm
HE Shell :
Max. Range : 18600 m
Proj. Wt : 44.9 kg
MV : 735 m.s-1
Adopted by the US Army (like the French 75mm Mle1897) and later modified to give rise to the155 mm Long Tom
