Hello,
I read that "z.b.V" means "zur besonderen Verwendung " translated by "for special utilization". But what are theses special utilization of this Panzer-Abteilung z.b.V. 66?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hello!
One question about zBV 66.
1. Kp./z.b.V. 66 commander is Hans-Günther Bethke
Who is the 2. Kp./z.b.V. 66 (captured russian tank) commander?
With best wishes, Vasily.

Personnel from Panzer-Abteilung z.b.V.66 with their Panzer IV Ausf.G, 1942.
Zur Besonderen Verwendung, in short z.b.V. means “for special purpose” in German.
Invasion of Malta fortress, Unternehmen Herkules needed a special tank unit. A new tank company was formed with Panzer IV Ausf.G tanks. This company was called Panzer-Kompanie z.b.V.66, lead by Oblt. Bethke, a Ritterkreuzträger. Later the operation was cancelled, and the company was reorganized as a batallion with 2 companies, one of which (1.Kp.) went to Heeresgruppe Nord and the other was employed in rear area of Heeresgruppe Mitte. They switched from tropical uniforms to black panzer uniforms.
