Were they a normal Prisoner of war or did they send to special pow camps?Or mostly died?

At Dachau the americans/brits took their weapons, accepted their surrender, then lined them up against the wall and shot them-breaking the rules of war.

I got curious on also What happened to camp commanders? I know there is some books about it,but i want to know,are they war criminal?

Some concentration camp guards were shot or killed themselves, but most survived the war and were either put on trial and found guilty of crimes against humanity or fled to the US or USSR, later to be deported back to Germany.
