Trial and Execution of General Nicola Bellomo
In response to a request from another section of the forum, here are the contemporary newspaper accounts from the New York Times (NYT) and London Times (LT) of the trial and execution of this Italian officer for murder and attempted murder of a POW. The newspaper and publication dates are given in the caption:

I am asking myself about a possible link between the trial towards Generale Bellomo and the fatal bombing and mass-killing of Bari Harbour happened in Dec. 1943. The "deep throath" spy also called "Mata Bari" who radio-guided the formation of 105 german Ju. 88s against the allied ships was never discovered because this traitor was too tight to the Badoglio's government. Bellomo's trial could be read as a "hot warning" towards those double-traitors H.Q. Staff members so close to the Little King as Bellomo effectively was. Justice was able to persecute every member of the Royal Staff in any moment: this was the warning from Allied prosecutors.
from Hakan Gustaffsson's site:
"The bombing on Bari harbour is a well-known incident, but according to all my sources it was performed by 100-105 Ju88s from KG’s no. 26, 30 , 54 , 76 and 100 (all bomber units remaining in Italy). 14 ships were destroyed in the harbour including SS John Harvey, which was bringing 100 tons of 100lb mustard gas bombs. This was the worst Allied shipping disaster since Pearl Harbour..."
