Most of what is told in this report about treatment of citizens by Germans is true, although hostile attitude progressed with time, and wasn't too apparent in the first few days. Kreshchatik wasn't blown up by Germans, NKVD did this and blamed invaders. They never cared about human lives and perhaps even wanted Germans to retaliate against peaceful population. Well, they accomplished it. Uspenskij cathedral of Kievo-Pecherskaja lavra was also blown up not by Germans.

For those who are interested in every-day life under German occupation, Anatolij Kuznetsov's "Babij Jar" (unexpurgated edn.) is a must-read. For those to whom it matters I should note that Kuznetsov was gentile anti-Communist.

I had to laugh when I read the following words near the beginning of the report:
In order to accomplish their villainous plans the Germans tried to establish a regime of slavery and serfdom in the Ukraine.
There was indeed a regime of slavery and serfdom in Ukraine. But it had been created by the Bolshevik regime. It was already in existence when the Germans came, and they simply took it over for their own purposes.

The Ukrainian people exchanged one slave-master for another, and who is to say that they would not have been better off under German peace-time rule, if the latter had been established.

Michael, don't forget the plans to let the Soviet Union starve while it's produce was shipped back to Germany. I doubt the Germans would have made better peacetime masters than the Soviets.

But certainly, your point about the Ukrainians simply switching one set of masters for another is true enough. Though the Bolsheviks merely took over the serfdom put in place during the Tsar's years.
