Good to see you back, Ostuf. For your first question, you asked:
What happened to germano-balt Major von Renteln (KIA,executed ?)
Kdr of Cossack Rgt 6th,at the end of the war .....??

Here's a fellow with the same name, and he's got a Baltic connection, but I don't know if he's the same guy you seek:

von Renteln, Dr. rer. pol. Theodor Adrian (1897-1946) – joined NSDAP 1928; founder of Berlin branch of the National Socialist High School Students' League (NS-Schulerbund); National leader of the National Socialist High School Students' League (Reichsfuhrer der NS-Schulerbund) to 15 Jun 1932 (merged with the Hitler Youth [Hitlerjugend]); National leader of the Hitler Youth (Reichsfuhrer der Hitler-Jugend) 30 Oct 1931-16 Jun 1932; National leader of the National Socialist Student Association (Reichsfuhrer der NS-Studentenbund) 30 Oct 1931-16 Jun 1932; Fuhrer des NS-Kampfbundes des gewerblichen Mittelstandes 1932-1933; assigned to 13-member committee formed to oversee the boycott of Jewish businesses 29 Mar 1933; Reichstag deputy (Mitglied des Reichstages) for electoral district (Wahlkreis) Potsdam 1933-1945; President of the German Industrial and Commercial Assembly (Praesident des Deutschen Industrie- und Handelstages) 1933-1945; Chairman of the Supreme Honor and Discipline Court of the German Workers' Front (Vorsizender des Obersten Ehren- und Disziplinarhofes der Deutschen Arbeitsfront); Leiter des Institutes fur angewandte Wirtschaftswissenschaft; Leader of the Main Office for Crafts and Commerce of the NSDAP Reich Leadership in Munich (Leiter des Hauptamtes fur Handwerk und Handel in der Reichsleitung der NSDAP in Munchen); Leader of Main Work Area Crafts and Commerce in the Central Bureau of the German Worker's Front in Berlin (Leiter des Hauptarbeitsgebietes Handwerk und Handel im Zentralburo der Deutschen Arbeitsfront in Berlin); Praesident und Betriebsfuhrer des Deutschen Genossenschaftsverbandes in Berlin; President of the German-Belgian Association in Berlin (Praesident der Deutsch-Belgischen Gesellschaft in Berlin); Commissioner-General for Lithuania (Generalkommissar Litauen) Aug 1941-1944 {taken prisoner by Soviet troops; put on trial by a Soviet tribunal for war crimes; convicted and sentenced to death by hanging; executed 1946 (ABR-Ostministerium; Encyclopedia of the Third Reich pps. 795-6).}

I don't know the fate of von Renteln but Kosaken-Regiment 6 became the Festungs-Grenadier Regiment 360 in 43.It had Kosaken-Btl.e 623, 622 and 638 independ company. In November 43 it was attached to 708. Inf.Division and it most likely was destroyed in west.

Von Renteln left that unit and in February 45 he was in staff of XV. Kosaken-Kavallerie-Korps with rank of Oberst. He was a liason officer with the Ataman's staff. On 9th May 45 he went to meet British commander Harold Alexander with letter from von Pannwitz explaining the cituation of the Cossacks. However he was unable to meet Alexander and he returned to Pannwitz few days later.

Most likely he was handed to Russians with Cossacks. I don't think we had to guess what he's fate in Russia was

This is the "F" metal Pz III badge commonly associated with von Renteln.

The second link had a post by jopaerya. I believe it is incorrect to link the 162. (Turk) Div. to Rshev. The original 162. Div. ( but could it have Cossacks attached to it?) was wiped out in Rshev in winter 41/42 and reformed in May 42 to 162. (Turk) Div. -- Turkistan, Azerbeijan and Georgian elements. Nothing particularly Cossack I can think of at this point.

Here are a few bad shots on Ebay from the same dealer, not necessarily from the same time but looks like same Nachlass:

The "F badge". Who was the general?

There is a cossack hat here

According to Schuster and Tiede, this was the Kosaken-Btl. 622 arm badge
Was this badge associated with some unit attached to fighting troops in Rshev in 1941 -- as the caption said in Schuster and Tiede: " the badge of Honor of a Pz.Div. at Rshev" or was it asociated with FestungsGren.Rgt. 360?

Cheers

From the source cited below:
Even special “decorations” were created to reward merit at a time when granting German medals and Kriegsabzeichen was expressly prohibited. An interesting example of this sort of “award” is a facsimile of a German Panzerkampwagen Auf. III in white metal with a large golden F upon it, which was given by von Renteln to men of his Cossack Regiment in recognition of their bravery in action against Red Army tanks.

The source doesn’t indicate what the F stood for. Does anyone know?

Best regards.
Shawn

Ewert von Renteln (also aka Ewald Woldemar) was born in 1893. In 1945 he was handed to soviets murders and died in Lager after 1946.

Hello all
In internet his first name is reported as Ewert but also as Evert.
Then in Fellgiebels Buch RKT as Ewert but in his Karteikarte as Evert.
So, has/knows anybody his true name (pls. from official docs. only) ?
Thanks

Hello
Sure that the first name of v.Renteln (11.04.93) is Ewert and not Evert ? Do You have any document confirming that ?
Thanks
