Did the Germans ever put French, or English guns on the Russian
vehicles chasis ie-- anti-tankguns etc?

Yes for example the French 75mm Mle1897 gun (Mle97/33 is an AT version) that was used on the Pak38 carriage ( Pak 97/38 ) was also mounted on the T-26 for example. A photo of it has already been posted in this thread I think. I have also heard of some tractors conversions were the French 47mm AT gun was mounted instead of the Germa Pak36 but those were only field conversion, I haven't found any photo or official classification for them.

pkenny posted on the first page some pictures of a "romanian captured" T-34 and a SU-75,... I don't think is true... in 1944 when Romania changed sides, the russians took away all the previously captured russian equipment. I think that T-34 and SU-75 were given later to the communist Romania after the war. The SU-75 was in active service until 1991...

You are correct. The T-34 in the photo (taken at the National Military Museum in Bucharest) is not of a captured tank, but of one which served in the Romanian People's Army.

During WW2, the captured Russian tanks were used for AT training of pioneers or were converted into tank destroyers (the T-60s).

Btw, the T-34 also served until the 90s.

RUSSIAN TANKS TO BE USED IN OPERATION HERKULES (Malta)In the JFF title about a German Panzer Officer cannot remember title he mentions KV11 KV1 and t34s were going to be used by a unit called z.b.v.66 for supporting the operation how the hell they were going to get there I do not know!! but obviously the Brits would have a hard time combating them

Types are well defined here but what about avaibility? In the French thread Panzer Meyer has shown good documentary evidence to support ~ 750 french tanks in service in 1943 and about 400 still listed as in service at the end of the war. I did some research and came to the conclusion that at least 1500 french tanks initially fell into german hands but because they were slow to develope their use many were left to rust and collect dust until mid war ...and as such were wasted war bootie.

OK given that the french had 4000 tanks and 1500 fell into german hands soviet numbers must have been much much more. It appears from the select french models that atleast 2/3 of the captured intact were reusable.

Going on german records I estimate that atleast 5000 soviet tanks fell intact into german hands in 1941 alone and atleast another 3000 in 1942 [with maybe 1000-500 in 1943 and 1944?]. Now the germans did have a tank factory in their possession when Kharkow fell in 1941 that did repair soviet tanks and Ukrainians were employed to fix up captured soviet tanks [including T-34s] for german reuse.

So the potential was enourmous, going on the french model something like 3000-4000 tanks captured in 1941 could have been used in 1942, while another 2500-3000 captured in 1942 could have been used in 1943 etc.

Any one ever seen any official numbers on this or even estimates? I gather that as the "eastern front" continued field commanders were loathed to report any captured tanks as they would be removed .
