Museums with Axis vehicles
Museums with Axis vehicles
I'd just like to remind you all that I have a section on the site that lists museums that include Axis equipment in their collections and I'd appreciate your help with expanding that section.
Any other museums that should be included?
Additional information on the museums listed?
Corrections to the information listed?
Photos from the museums that I can add to the site? If you live close to such museums, prehaps you could visit and take some photos?
etc
You can find the list at http://www.axishistory.com/index.php/ot ... -equipment

Militärhistorischen Museum der Bundeswehr in Dresden
the former museum of the NVA. I visited it last summer (2003) and they have a huge amount of interesting artefacts. Those relating to the German Army in WWII includes:
Kettenkrad
RSO
Renault Chenilette with Wurfrahmen
SdKfz 251
Hetzer (or G13?)
Early Pz IV turret (rusty, dug up in the nearby training grounds)
KwK 37 in ground mount
A couple of trucks and half-track
Several guns including a very fine 8,8cm FlaK on its transport wheels
Plenty of allied equipment as well:
Universal Carrier
IS-II
SU-100
T-34
Sherman M4A1
Comet (?)
Loads of WWII era guns (mostly Soviet)
and a good deal of post-war stuff as well.
The museum is being rebuilt this year, and their homepage is apparently down: http://www.milhistmuseum.de/

A couple of pictures:
T-34/85
The backyard with some of the guns. This area was fenced in, but you can see them from the outside.
The Renault Chenilette with Wurfrahmen inside the museum.
The 8,8cm FlaK. On the right a SdKfz 251, on the left you can see the early Panzer IV turret dug up at the training grounds near Dresden.

Marcus also include this one.
A small, but great museum in France is Musée militaire 1939 - 1945 in Roscoff.
I've included some pictures.

No, only partially in the background of some photos. I didn't have much room left on my smartcard at the time, unfortunately.Sander D wrote:Question Claus,do you also have a picture of that SWS slepper of Militärhistorischen Museum in Dresden.

But here is what I have, nicely put together

There used to be a Panther in the village of Grandmenil in Belgium
Its been a long time since I was there, but I think it is still there. This may be the same one that is already on the page, labelled as "Manhay", if the so, the location is actually Grandmenil.
There is yet another Panther in Houffalize, which does not seem to be in the listing for Belgium:

PS: There are several sites in Belgium and Luxemburg with German artillery pieces. For example, there is a 8,8cm PaK 43/41 in Heinerschied and a 8,8cm PaK 43 and a 15cm sFH 18 at Hochfels, both in Luxemburg. Also in Luxemburg, there is a 10,5cm leFH 18/40 and a 8,8cm PaK 43 outside Wilz as well as a 8,8cm PaK 43 outside Trois-Vierges.
In Cherain in Belgium, they have a 15cm sFH 18.
Most of these are in a sorry state, but they probably all represent genuine battle relics, drawn into city squares etc. from nearby battlefields or in fact stands more or less where the Germans left them in 1944/45.
