FRANZ Roestel
According to http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de, his first name was Erwin. This is not correct. His name, as confirmed by documents in his SS-Personalakte (personnel file), was Franz Roestel.
Best wishes,

Mike is right. His name was Franz Rudolf Roestel. He was SS-Obersturmbannführer and Oberstfeldmeister in RAD (since 01.07.1937). Who know when he won the German Cross in Gold (Deutsches Kreuz in Gold)?

Further to the wonderful and informative comments made by others.....
SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer der Reserve Franz Roestel
Born: May4, 1902 in Gorlitz, Silesia (now Poland)
Died: Nov24, 1974 in Regensburg, Danube
German Cross in Gold: See above post
Knights Cross: Mar 28, 1945 as CO of SS Pz Jgr Abt 10 as part of the 10th SS Pz Dv "Frundsberg". The KC was awarded personally by FM Schorner.
As an experienced officer of assualt gun troops, Roestel was transferred to the Waffen SS in order to teach at the Anti-Tank School of the waffen SS. "In Sept 1944, his unit SS Pz Jgr Abt 10 was detached from the 10SS PzDv (which was moving to area of Arnhem for refitting) and attached to Kampfgruppe Walther - Defence of Neerpelt Bridgehead (Operation Market Garden...A bridge to Far). Hauptmann Roestel had limited successes during the allied operation and was instrumental in cutting the Main Supply Route of MArket Garden...known as 'Hells Highway'. Roestel's unit was transfered back to 10SS Pz Dv in Oct 44". He later become CO of the 10 SS Antitank Detachment and was the last CO of the "Frundsberg" Division in the last weeks of the war on the Eastern Front.

The picture above, I believe, is Roestel. There is a photo of him in a Heer uniform in the book mentioned above. I do not have a scanner and hopefully someone else who does have the book may scan it and post it (page 334-335).
I hope this helps
