Recently I found 6 rounds of 47 mm guns. 4 shrapnel. The remaining 2 AP. Region - Kharkiv region of Ukraine.
The question is - how much explosive material contained in the fragmentation shell. In these manuals are not found. And the amount of explosive in an AP interested too.Image Image Image

Hello,

The following are from a Chinese manual(China employed the gun in 1930s and 40s):

Sharpnel: 132g TNT
AP round & tracer: about 20g TNT

I don't know if this data is reliable. Just for your refrence.

Let me get this - do I understand this right. Did you just write that you found live artillery ammunition over 70 years old, presumably took them home and are now asking how much high exlosive there is inside them along photos (taken with shells on floor of your home?) that the show fuses still in them?

If so, I am pretty sure that is both illegal everywhere and in general extremely stupid thing & dangerous to do. Playing with old unexploded ordnance (UXO) is just accident waiting to happen - and when the accident ultimately happens what remains of you will likely be gathered to bucket or two. While TNT is usually pretty stable do you not know how sensitive the fuses are after all that time or if the shells were actually loaded with picric or something more exotic. Be smart and hand them over to authorities before you kill yourself and possibly those around you.

I am also pretty sure that 20 grams is way too little for high explosive (HE) shell - even Italian APHE-T shells contained substantially more than that.

Per the postwar American EOD Manual the weights for the projectiles were:

4.7 CM SPRENGGRANATE PATRONEN 38(t)
6.348 ONCES TNT BURST CHARGE

4.7 CM PANZERGRENATE PATRONEN 35(o)
.74 ONCES TNT

There is no data in the manual on a anti personell canister round however most projectiles of this sort if they had any bursting charge it would have been black powder.

Finland had two versions of Böhler, 10 from Switzerland and 12 from Italy.
Generaly it is believed that the ones from Switzerland ( 47 mm x 185 R) were Austrian made and the ones from Italy (47 mm x 195 R) were mod 39.
However, judging from the few photos I've seen I have some doubts.
What do you think?

The Finnish gunsof Italian origin seem to lack the "extra sleeve" of the barrel.
Did all the 47/32 mod 39 have it?
