Civilian casualties of Italian partisans, 1943-45.

Post by Mark V. » 31 Mar 2004 09:14

Looking for number of civilians killed by Italian partisans (communists) in WW2. I came up with some really big numbers, but it's from a German source so I would like to get confirmation.

Thanks in advance
Mark

The number of civillian casualties amounts to 300,000 real or imagined fascist supporters, sympathizers, anti-fascists (yeap, even they somehow disagreed with each other) and their families

The source is from our (me and Ostuf Charlemagne) upcoming book, chapter 3, Tragedy of the Roman Epurazione

want to know where we get our sources? Buy our book...

Just to tell you that some of our sources for this figure even comes from partisan veterans association in Italy

Just because it is a German Source does not mean it is wrong/nor does American (and/or Allied) mean it is correct....

After the end of the war 19,801 people were killed (at least, since these are those certainly listed by name; it's alleged a total of 50,000), for the years 1943-45 (before the end of the war) I've not detailed info, but frankly 300,000 look really too many.

Yeah that's the number mentioned in Roland Kaltenegger: Operationszone "Adriatisches Küstenland", but he doesn't mention his source - thus my scepticism.

300,000 is a very big number.

I am a bit wary of Kaltenegger - his biography of Schoerner seemed very suspect to me, just from browsing it in a book-shop. For me his in the 'grain of salt, won't buy his books' category.
