I got doubts about this particular, also pics will be welcome. for instance in one of this links there a resume of the tanks of 1st Coy, I (everybody knows these)have another pics of KT (p), which of these belong to the third Coy at Normandy campaign?

Thanks in advance

German Tanks Employed in Normandy

#2

Post by Bayerlein spirit » 08 Apr 2004, 15:36

Hello,

Transferred back to the West, the s.Pz.abt 503 received a further 33 Tiger Is and 12 Tiger IIs and was sent to Normandy. 1st company had been re-equipped with Tiger II Bs, but the 2nd and 3rd companies retained the Tiger I E. The 3rd company was caught in a bombing attack the 18 July 1944 and lot of its Tigers were destroyed or damaged. Fourteen Tiger II were despatched to the battalion 27 - 29 July. The tanks arrived during the first week of August. On 11 August, the company left Mailly le camp by rail. It did not arrive for the Falaise battle, and fought near "Mantes and roads to escape" . In september 1944 , s.Pz.abt 503 was completely equipped with 45 new Tiger II Bs.

I know the Lodieu book, I buyed it 5 or 6 months ago, very good! at least for the photos, superb material!!! but when talks about the third Coy, it's not very explicit of when the fight goes on. As you know there's some other photos showing disabled or destroyed KTs (p), I will know if any body can help me to recognize any of this machines. the pics I put on this post show the third's Coy training on Mailly le camp (as all of you know) but, what about the other KTs? which is their number? when and where they was destroyed/abandoned?. that's the point.

Thanks for helping

I think you will find it is very difficult to put turret numbers on these 3rd kp. tanks. Not only that the number of TII's with the production turret in this batch is also in dispute. Veterans say only 2 when the photos show 3 knocked out. I have been trying for years and am still in the dark.
