I have many doubts about turkish army NCO rank Insignia.


Turkish army NCo used rank insignia in to shoulder or in the arm?

I have a book about Ottoman Army 1914-1918,Osprey Publishing London,but the book does not explain practically nothing.

Which the Turkish Army NCO Rank insignia?

I want to know which is rank insignia for each rank of the NCO.

Non Commisioned Officer:
In turkish army corporal is Onbasi
sergeant is Çavus
sergeant major is BasÇavus.


The Rank Insignia of the Turkish Officers, I know, and same to the German Army.


Please, can help me, and if it will be able to send me figures and pictures with the Rank Insignia to each rank,if possible.

I've already emailed Cristiano with this information, but for anyone else who's interested in Ottoman NCO rankings I'll post it here too.
I went to the Imperial War Museum and got the following information from the Handbook of the Turkish army 1910/16 Eighth edition.
I've drawn a quick sketch (attached) of the rank for a Sergeant Major
(3 stripes) from the book (it's all in black and white). The other ranks are
the same with two or one stripe as in the Osprey book on the Turkish Army 1914-18 plates D2 and E3.
Sergeant Major- Bash Chaoush- 3 stripes
Assistant Sergeant Major- Bash Chaoush Mu'avini- 2 stripes
Sergeant- Chaoush - 1 stripe
Corporal- On Bashi- no stripes
This is all in the appendix and on page 135 it also says-
"NCO's are distinguished from rank and file by having coloured shoulder
straps, of distinctive colour for the arm (of service) to which they belong.
To distinguish the different grades of NCO broad traverse bands are added (gilt for combatants and silver for non-combatants). Sergeants have one band, assistant sergeant majors have two bands and sergeant majors 3 bands. Corporals have no bands. The shoulder straps are bordered with red edging. Sergeant Majors also add a red tassel to their side arms.
A further distinction of bands of distinctive colour above the cuffs is now
being introduced: in this case a corporal will have one broad band, a
sergeant one broad and one narrow band, an assistant sergeant major two
broad and a sergeant major 3 broad bands."
