Quite remarcable life - during German occupation of Belgium he, an anti-nazi, tried to save as many (Jews and Belgians) as possible, with amazing results.

PS. After WWII he married a ... French resistance fighter 8O .

He spent a mere eighteen days behind Belgian bars after getting cleared of all charges against him.

Leaving Belgium, embittered, he left a note in a roadside inn:
"Ingrata Belgica, non habebis ossa mea" (Ungrateful Belgium - you won't get my ashes)...
