Question about the KZ Neuengamme

Post by Ryan94 » 27 Jun 2004 12:34

Hi,

i´m new at this board, and first wanna to say "hi" to everyone. ;) (i´m from Germany, so my englisch is not the best, sorry)

But i have a question about the KZ Neuengamme wich was located at Hamburg, because i heard the this KZ had some "external camps" in Braunschweig and Schandelah. (Schandelah is a little village witht about 500 townsfolks, and i was born in near of it, and lived about 10 years there)
And now i want to know, if it´s true that the city of Brauschnwig and Schandelah had these external camps of the Neuengamme?
And if it is true, how many people could "work" there, and are any pics available of it?

It would be nice, if you could help me.

Bye, David

The Schandelah sub-camp of Neuengamme existed from May-October 1944 and held approximately 780 male prisoners. The camp was evacuated to AL-Wobbelin. I have read two different sources, one which suggests that the prisoners work in something reated to oil refining, and the other, which suggests they were farmed out to the firm of Steinol, Gmbh.

Wow, thanks for this info, that really helped me... 780 prisoners, that were more people as in the Schandelah. ;)
