Wolfgang Falk with Gheorghiu or Jonescu of Rumania

Post by Dieter Zinke » 14 Jul 2004 17:37

Hallo forum

Who is the general of the Rumanian Air Force in this pic:
Major General Ermil Gheorghiu, Chief of Staff Rumanian Air Force, German Knights Cross 04.04.1944
or
Major General Emanoil Jonescu, commanding general Rumanian I. Flieger-Korps, German Knights Cross 10.05.1944 ???

Oberst i.G. Wolfgang Falck (KC 01.10.1941 as Kommodore NJG 1) was (succeeding Oberst Bernhard Woldenga) 00.07.1944 - 07.10.1944 Jafü (Jagdfliegerführer) Balkan.

Hi Oberstab,

Can't remember where I got this. But it's supposed to be Emanoil Ionescu. Not quite the air force general that you posted.

cheers

Hi Oberstab!

Here is a better pic of Jonescu which shows that your man is definately not him, therefore it must be Ermil Gheorghiu. Nice pic of him!

Regards,

Hi everybody!
This is great, if this is Gheorgiu now I only need two pics to complete all the foreign RKTs, both from Romania: Jon Hristea & Georghe Rascanescu.
Great pic Oberstab! :D
Best regards.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the Romanian general in the photo is not Ermil Gheorghiu. He is not even an air force general. He is brig. gen. Radu Korne ("the pride of the cavalry" :D ), who in 1944 was the CO of teh 1st Armored Division (which explains the uniform).
Btw, great photo indeed!

No problem. I guess that only leaves Hristea and Rascanescu, who I would be curious to see myself.
