Last letters of Joseph and Magda Goebbels... april 1945

Here you can found a strange document. The last letter of Joseph Goebbels to his "son" Harald Quandt on april 28, 1945 and the last letter of Magda Goebbels to Harald too. These are the last document of Goebbel... except of course the note of Last Will that I´m going to post in two or three days.

This is a good documentation to Researchers or people who likes study the III Reich.

Thanks to my friend Xavier for the translation to english -I have the document in spanish- and Malbork for his commentary.

I posted the document in english and spanish. I think this is the final tragedy of this history. I can´t say: "enjoy it"...

Letter form Dr. Joseph Goebbels to Harald Quant, april 28, 1945.

Started in the Führerbunker on april 28, 1945.

Dear Harald,

we are locked down in the Führerbunker at the Reichschancellory and we are fighting for ou lives and honor.

How will this fight end, god only knows, But I know it will end for us with honor and glory, dead or alive . I do not think we will se each other again, because of this, this will be the last words you will receive from me. I hope, if you come out [alive] from this war, that you will honor both your mother and I, as is not necesary for us to survive to influence our people.

You will be the only one left to carry on with our family traditions. Always act in a way not to ashame us. Germany will resist [survive] this war, but only if our people has in its eyes examples to guide them. and this is the example that we want to give. You can be proud to have a mother like you have now, last night the fhuherer gave her the golden party pin he has carried during years on his jacket, and I think she deserves it. in the future, you will have only one mission: be worth of the great sacrifice we are willing to make. I know you will. Don't let the noise that the world is about to start disorientate you. One day, the lies will fall under their own weight, and truth will triumph over them, the hour will come in which we will be above all, clean and whitout guilt, [(mancha: culpa)] like our faith and task were.

Goodbye dear Harald!! If we meet again, depends on god, if is not to be, I will always be proud of having belonged to a family, that, even in adversity, and up to the last moment, has been faithful to the Führer and his pure and holy cause.

Letter from Magda Goebbels to Harald Quandt

April 28, 1945
written on the fuhrer's bunker
My dear son:

it has been six days since we arrived here, at the Fuhrer's bunker, papa, your six brothers and I, to put the only possible and honorable end to our nacionalsocialist life. I do not know if you will ever receive this letter. perhaps there will be one human soul that will allow me to send you my last goodbye: I want you to know I am besides yoru papa agaisnt his will, and this past sunday the fuhrer still wanted to help me get out of here. You know your mother, we carry the same blood, I did not had to think it a minute, our magnificent idea[ls] are falling down, and with them, all I ever knew about beauty, admirable, noble and good.

The world that will come afther the fuhrer and nationalsocialism does not deserves that one wants to live on it. because of that, I have brought the children with me, the life that comes ahead is not worth for them to live it, and a grateful god will understand that I myself set them free. You wil live and I ask only one thing form you, that you never ever forget you are a german, never do against [your] honor, and thru your life, see that our deaths won't be in vain.

The children are marvelous, in our circumstances, as primitive as they are, they take care of themselves, if they have to sleep on the floor, if they can clean themselves, if they can eat at all, and what they can eat, if, never a word of complaint or crying . the explosions shake the bunker , The elders protect the young and their presence is a blessing, even if only because they bring a smile now and then to the fuhrer.

Last night, the fuhrer took off his golden party pin and pinned it to me. I am proud and Happy. May god bring me strenght to complete the last and hardest [task]. We have only one objective: be loyal to the Fuhrer to death and be able to end our lives with him is a grace of destiny which we never counted with.

Harald, my dear boy, I wil tell you the best thing I have learnt in life: be loyal [truthful]:loyal to yourself, loyal to men, and loyal to your fatherland.

Empezada en el Bunker del Führer 28 de abril de 1945.
Mi querido Harald,

Estamos encerrados en el búnker del Führer en la Cancillería del Reich y luchamos por nuestra vida y nuestro Honor.

Cómo terminará esta lucha, sólo Dios lo sabe. Pero yo se que nosotros saldremos de ella con honor y gloria, vivos o muertos. No creo que volvamos a vernos. Por ello, posiblemente éstas sean las últimas líneas que recibas de mí. Espero que, si sales de esta guerra, harás honor a tu madre y a mí. No es necesario que nosotros vivamos para influir en el futuro de nuestro Pueblo.

Tú serás el único que continúe la tradición familiar. Actúa siempre de modo que nosotros no tengamos que avergonzarnos. Alemania resistirá esta terrible guerra, pero sólo si nuestro Pueblo tiene ante los ojos ejemplos de los que pueda guiarse. Y éste es el ejemplo que nosotros queremos dar. Puedes estar orgulloso de tener una madre como la que tienes. Anoche, el Führer le dio la insignia de Oro del Partido que él ha llevado durante años prendida en la chaqueta, y yo creo que ella la merece. No tendrás en el futuro más que una misión: mostrarte digno del gran sacrificio que nosotros estamos decididos a hacer. Sé que lo harás. No te dejes desorientar por el ruido del mundo que ahora empezará a sonar. Un día las mentiras caerán por su propio peso y la verdad triunfará sobre ellas. Llegará la hora en la que nosotros estaremos por encima de todo, limpios y sin mancha, como fueron siempre nuestra fe y nuestro afán.

¡Adiós, querido Harald! Si hemos de volver a vernos, de vernos, de Dios depende. Si no es así, está siempre orgulloso de pertenecer a una familia que, aún en la adversidad, y hasta el último momento, ha permanecido fiel al Führer y a su pura y santa Causa.

A 28 de abril de 1945
Escrita en el búnker del Führer.
Mi querido hijo,


Hace seis días que estamos aquí, en el búnker del Führer, papá, tus seis hermanos, y yo, para poner a nuestra vida nacionalsocialista el único fin posible y honroso. No sé si recibirás esta carta. Tal vez exista un alma humana que me permita enviarte mi último adiós. Quiero que sepas que permanezco al lado de papá contra su voluntad y que este último domingo el Führer todavía quería ayudarme a salir de aquí. Ya conoces a tu madre: los dos llevamos la misma sangre, no tuve que pensarlo ni un momento. Nuestra magnifica idea se desmorona, y con ella, todo lo que en mi vida conocí de hermoso, admirable, noble y bueno. El mundo que vendrá después del Führer y del nacionalsocialismo no merece que se quiera vivir en él. Por ello, he traído conmigo a los niños. La vida que se avecina no es diga de que ellos la vivan y un Dios bondadoso ha de comprender que yo misma los libere. Tú vivirás, y sólo una cosa te pido: no olvides que eres alemán, nunca hagas nada contrario al honor y procura con tu vida que nuestra muerte no haya sido en vano.

Los niños son estupendos. En nuestras circunstancias, más que primitivas, se cuidan solos. Si tienen que dormir en el suelo, si pueden lavarse, si pueden comer y qué es lo que comen: nunca ni una palabra de queja ni un llanto. Las explosiones sacuden al Búnker. Los mayores protegen a los pequeños y su presencia es ya una bendición, aunque sólo sea porque de vez en cuando hacen sonreír al Führer.

Anoche, el Führer se quitó su insignia de oro y me la prendió a mí. Estoy orgullosa y contenta. Quiera Dios darme fuerzas para hacer lo último y más difícil. Sólo tenemos un objetivo: ser fieles al Führer hasta la muerte, y poder terminar nuestra vida con él es una gracia del destino con la que nunca nos atrevimos a contar.

Harald, querido muchacho, te diré lo mejor que he aprendido en la vida: sé fiel. Fiel a ti mismo, fiel a los hombres y fiel a tu Patria. En todos los aspectos.

Es difícil empezar una nueva hoja. Quién sabe si podré llenarla, pero quisiera darte tanto amor y tanta fuerza y quitarte todo dolor por nuestra pérdida. Está orgulloso de nosotros y trata de recordarnos con orgullo y alegría. Todos tenemos que morir, ¿Y no es más hermoso vivir menos pero con honor y valentía que tener una vida larga en condiciones vergonzosas?

This text came from "Goebbels´s Diary from february 28 until april 10, 1945. The Last notes" Edition of 1979 ("Las ultimas anotaciones. Diario del Dr. Goebbels febrero 28 - Abril 10, 1945" or know as "Tagebucher 1945".)

I have the spanish edition. One of the forist help me with the english translation.

The final Goebbels diaries from February to April 1945 are an excellent read and contain some great photographs as well as a unique insight into the last days of the Reich.

They were published again last month after being out of print for many years.
