I never realised Schleyer was an SS officer, until I was browsing Wikipedia and saw their article on him. It mostly agrees with the above informed posts, while adding some personal details such as the fact that he married the daughter of an SA Obergruppenführer (Emil Ketterer).

21.10.1939 Schleyer married Waltraut Ketterer (geb. 21.01.1916), daughter of the SA-Sanitäts-Obergruppenführer Dr. Emil Ketterer (his bio will be in the book about the higher SA leaders by Mike Miller and myself).

Hi Dieter,

interesting. But are you sure the two portrait photos show the same man? Top person looks like Schleyer to me, lower one doesn't...

Tilman,

I totally agree with you - we miss his rubber lips (aufgeworfene dicke Lippen).
But conequently the mistake is with the source

Hi Dieter,

the source of the lower picture mentions Hans-Eberhard Schleyer, not Hanns-Martin Schleyer. Maybe somebody related? Or maybe not even that....

Yes, that's what a forum is good for. Nowadays some people call it swarm-intelligence...

Here is the "Erleuchtung" (enlightenment)

It's the son - ... and I was a blockhead: My grey brain-cells are growing old :(
