Info on Slovakian generals??
With no luck on the Bulgarian generals (surprise!), I'm now trying to get some information on Slovakian generals. Can anyone provide me with information on the following Slovakian generals? You know, years of birth-death, ranks & appointments. (Any sources will also do).
Stefan Jurek
Augustin Malar
Rudolf Pilfousek
Anton Pulanich
Josef Turanec
As Slovakia is closer to Germany than Bulgaria, maybe this “Axis”-forum can be of assistance. Yes, I know. I’m being provocative again.

Steen,
Two booksuggestions for you:
"Germany's First Ally: Armed Forces of the Slovak State 1939-1945" by Charles K. Kliment & Bretislav Nakladal
"Axis Slovakia: Hitler’s Slavic Wedge, 1938-1945" by Mark Axworthy (I'm not sure if this one has been published yet)
btw. I've actually been planning to spend some time studying the Slovak forces, so I will keep your request in mind and let you know if I find anything.

Marcus,
Thank you for the suggestions. I’ll try to get hold off them. However I fear that they are too superficial for my purpose. So please have me in mind when researching the Slovakian forces.
Do you know how many pages “Germany’s First Ally …” is?
Anyone else, please don’t refrain from answering my questions because of this. Let me know you are out there (besides Marcus).

Steen,
I wish I had more to provide, but here's the "stock" information I'm sure you already have on two of these officers:
Gen.Maj. Augustin Malár
Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross: 23 January 1942, Commander of the Slovak Schnelle Division (“Swift Division” or "Rýchla Divizia" in Czech).
Gen.Maj. Josef Turanec
Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross: 7 August 1942, Commander of the Slovak Schnelle Division.
There is a great photo of each of these officers wearing their Knight's Cross in "Foreign Legions of the Third Reich, Vol. 3: Albania, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Hungary and Yugoslavia" by David Littlejohn M.A., A.L.A. (R. James Bender Publishing, San Jose, CA, 1985). Unfortunately, that's about all the book has on Slovak generals. It does have some pretty decent photos/illustrations of all the Slovak badges, awards and decorations including the Commemorative Badge of the "Schnelle Division" on the Russian Front which, I'm sure, both generals were entitled to wear.

Thanks Michael & ???? (Must admit I really don't like these synonyms, some very childish and some really damaging to the creditability I give their postings). Anyway thank you.
I didn’t know that site. It looks like a very useful tool for your work.
Luckily I already got the years of death on Malar and Turenc. Malar died in 1945, but does anyone know whether he died in German prison or did the Germans execute him (having participated in the Slovak National Raising)?
Still looking for information on the other Slovakian generals. Maybe they got some other German award making it possible to get some info on them

You're welcome...
Glad to help, Steen.
Don't know what you mean by "synonyms" in that context, though.
I don't see anything in the names of those who've posted in this thread that might cause offense or be deemed as childish...
Curiously,
~ Mike

Regarding names
Mike,
You are right! None in this thread is offensive or childish, and it was the wrong place to make that remark. It should have been made in the comments section as I was speaking generally. My apologies to USAF1986 (although I still prefers real names, but then again Steen Ammentorp might be a synonym as well 8) who is to know?). I know it’s idiosyncratic, but there we are!
Sorry

Slovakian & Bulgarian generals
Hi David,
Thank you very much for your effort both on the Slovakian & Bulgarian generals, I have some follow up questions. But at the moment I have disabled my computer at home, nor does my internet connection work. Not until Friday, but then I’ll return.
Kind Regards

Hi Steen!
Anton Pulanich was born in 1884, and in 1939 was C-in-C of the Air Force. If I find anything more detailed, I'll let you know.
Best wishes,

Greetings everybody!
Does anyone have pictures of Rudolf Pilfousek, or further information about his military career and localization during the years of 1941-44?
Thanks a lot!
