Did we mention Taxi nach Tobruk before...?

Image

A well done Co-Production from Frankreich, Deutschland, Spanien, 1960, starring Charles Aznavour, Hardy Krüger, Lino Ventura, Maurice Biraud, German Cobos...

Aznavour, Ventura and Krueger together in a very good movie, I would like to recommend.

Nice thread, thanks to all users! :)

Regards Michael

btw, I am a long time fan of Lino Ventura and his movies, especially his gangster-movies from the 1950/1960s, a great actor, and as as person a role model to me, RESPECT @ Lino Ventura!

One of the Top 100, right now on german television (ARD) is the movie Exodus.

One of Paul Newmans best performances, the final scene at the graveyard is very touching and impressive.

I have seen this movie over the years surely more than a hundred times, as a kid in cinema, later in the TV, a great movie, one of the best from the 1960s!

A well done and very serious movie about Stalingrad and the suffering soldiers on both sides of the battle.

War and Humor, is this compatible, yes it is, in the movie The Secret of Santa Vittoria / Das Geheimniss von Santa Vittoria.

A USA production of the year 1969, starring Anthony Quinn, Anna Magnani, Hardy Krüger, Virna Lisi, Sergio Franchi, Carlo Caprioli, Renato Rascel, Eduardo Ciannelli, Giancarlo Giannini, Aldo De Carellis, Patrizia Valturri, Eduardo Gianelli, Tim Donnelly, Leopoldo Trieste, Gigi Ballista, Quinto Parmeggiani, Wolfgang Jansen, Peter Kuiper, Pino Ferrara.

The great actor Anthony Quinn as Italo Bombolini, Anna Magnani as his wife Rosa Bombolini and Hardy Krueger as Hauptmann von Prum in a very entertaining movie, another MUST-SEE, just for the performance of Anthony Quinn.

You are right, kobold, it is a very entertaining movie, to sorry, it is seldom to see in german TV, Mr. Anthony Quinn is to me one of the best actors ever, more than a Giant on the silver screen, I am deeply impressed by his movies, just to mention Alexis Sorbas, I have seen several docus about the man Quinn and his life, very touching, as far as I know he had more than 15(?) kids, was married 4 or 5 times, all his children talk very nice and lovely about Quinn, even nowadays...

The Uniforms are 100% modern-Looking SS/Gestapo Uniforms.

Absolutely brilliant satire on Nazism and totalitarism.

One more thing, the principal character is from Argentina 8O 8) :P (in the movie  )

Regarding WWII movies:
I looked through all the messages and didn't see one of my favorite movies (might have missed it). It is "Slaughterhouse Five", directed by George Roy Hill, based on the 1969 novel by Kurt Vonnegut. It is based partially upon Vonnegut's own experiences; being captured in the Ardennes, and being a prisoner of war in Dresden during the destruction of the city by British and American air raids. I loved the book, and loved the movie since I feel it is one of the few movies I've seen that have faithfully translated a book to the screen. The movie involves much more than WWII and might be described as a fantasy/science fiction film. But I feel it effectively conveys the fickleness/absurdity/tragedy of life and war as well as anything I've read or seen. Also I felt that in terms of authenticitiy, the movie did a good job (especially for it's time) in terms of the equipment and uniforms (especially German) shown.

Also agree with the "The Bridge". Saw that as a "kid" on late night TV and it made a big impact. "The Train" is another really good, probably under-appreciated/under-recognized movie (and filmed in black and white which I felt added to its veracity). "Kelly's Heroes" was also a favorite of mine when it was released (and still is).

PS: I hated the move "Platoon" and felt like walking out of the theater. I'm no raving conservative but I felt that this movie could have been made by the NVA. I have made it a point since to never watch anything by Oliver Stone.

This is my first message to Axis History Forum; I look forward to many more and asking for information/help on numerous subjects.
