I agree, but believe it or not as far as farb is concerned I have not noticed any inaccuracies in their uniforms.....of all the episodes I've seen anyway.

This is huge. Saving Private Ryan broke the rules of authenticy time and time again. A bridge too far is one of the worst movies for the representation of German soldiers as well.

Not saying I didn't enjoy the movies, but they didn't pay too much attention to history.

A BRIDGE TOO FAR is not inaccurate! That movie was based on the true story of the military operation MARKET GARDEN -- the Allies’ attempt to end the war quickly by capturing several bridges that led to the border of Germany. It was also based on the book of the same title. The author is Cornelius Ryan, the same guy who wrote the book THE LONGEST DAY. The movie was based on true events; it is not a fictional movie like SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

Robert Duvall's role as a German Officer in "The Eagle Has Landed" is quite convincing in my opinion. I can't recall the name of his character off hand. I believe he played a Major or perhaps a Colonel, who had developed a taste for those Russian cigarettes while fighting on the Eastern Front. He came up with the idea to kidnap Churchill, and, of course, when the plan failed, he was taken out and shot.

Here's another vote for Kenneth Colley! He was also an Imperial Admiral in Star Wars, and also played Hitler (but on the stage, I believe).

He's much cuter than Michael Sheard :-)

He was in Scarlet and the Black, played Eichmann in Wallenberg, also magnificent as Paul Blobel in War and Remembrance, and Keitel in Plot to Kill Hitler.

In "Went the Day Well" (1942, released in US 1944 as "48 Hours") Basil Sydney played the commander a group of German paratroopers dropped in England to take out a radar installation prior to invasion.
Before their evil plot is rumbled he pretends to be Major Hammond in the Royal Engineers and speaks perfect Home Counties English, taking in the inhabitants of a sleepy English village. As soon as he is exposed, the Major becomes Kommandant Orlter and procedes to speak to the villagers in corny German-accented English - I mean why? He can speak perfect English, full of 'we's and 'the's and 'there's, why would he suddenly start saying 've's and 'zee's and 'zer's other than to emphasise the evil Bosch image?
