In my opinion, everything about it is wrong.

Horrible.

The reverse says it all. There should be no visible relief of the obverse showing through on the reverse. Pin is all wrong. Looks like a very poor cast copy.

The obverse is wrong too. Sword hilt is too wide skull is wrong. No need to go on.

In my humble opinion. Leave well alone.

I agree with others, also note the scales on the serpents, they are too large.

This is just an observation, the reverse of Ludwig's AP looks very similar to this semihollow die stuck AP shown by Gordon Williamson. If you look closely there are some similarities in the die work to the reverse.

http://www.gordon-williamson.co.uk/gallery.htm

However the obverse detailing is completely different on each badge.
I assume as Gordon places a picture of this semi hollow badge in his gallery he takes this semihollow AP as a genuine variation?

I'm not saying Ludwig's is genunie or fake, merely pointing out an interesting , if not vague similarity.

Mr. Ludwig I am sorry, but your badge is a poor quality reproduction.

Raz

Interesting point. The reverse is almost identical to what Gordon Williamsons shows. As you say though the obverse is very different.

I have to say Gordon is pretty knowledgable on the APB and I value his opinion.

However I have NEVER seen an APB like the type shown on his website with that type of reverse as being considered to be an original.

I have done a lot of research on the different types of semi hollow back APB's and have hundreds of pictures in my database as well as handling a few and having a couple of my own.

This is a first for me so I am open to standing corrected (Bill were are you on this one ?) but I personally (at this time) would not touch this type or Gordons either for that matter.

APB in bronce

Post by Ludwig » 27 Aug 2002 08:02

Gentlemen!
Many thanks for your opinions.
First of all: the reverse and the obverse of the APB on Gordon Williamson´s site is not of the same badge. Before he updated his site, it showed a front just like the one in my post (it´s not my badge). I have asked Gordon about the badge on his site and he thinks it´s OK.
Personally I just don´t know. As you all say (and I agree!) the reverse is horrible. I just wanted some opinions.
