What happend to the Type UA submarine built by Germania Werft for export to Turkey, but it was never delivered to Turkey.

It stayed in the Kriegsmarine, but what is its history? I know it was first launched in 1938.

"Saldýray" and "Batýray" names was given by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Saldýray means "Attacker Moon" Batýray means "Sinker Moon"...

Just a photo from a Janes war ships book(sorry i don't have a scanner)..

Hello Bruce7506,

lovely pictures, thank You very much.
I will complete that the lucky man in his black hat (Optimist) to choose as symbol from "UA" was an idea of her commandant, Cohausz. The whale was "met" on the 2. patrol near the equator, when UA rammed under water a big whale. Here You all can read more abou this lucky UBoot: http://www.uk-muenchen.de/ueber_uns/web_inhalt.htm, but it is in German and here in English http://www.uk-muenchen.de/english/eng_index.htm
