Was there a Hitler yacht, or a third Reich government yacht?

Thanks

Goering had one named after his second wife, the "Caren 2", which was sort of de facto official.

Hello Johan,

I, like you, have an interest in ships. Look at the HELA on the following link. Like most things that the Russians took from the Germans (cities, autos, ect.), this ship was treated harshly, and it degraded into a mess.

Have you ever heard of the OSTWIND? Some people incorrectly call it HITLER'S SHIP. A group of jews wanted to make a statement, so they sunk it off the Florida coast. What is amazing, is that these fools sunk the ship onto a live coral reef right near a shipping lane!

Yes there was....it was scrapped in New Jersey. The plumbing from Hitlers personal bathroom is in a gas station in New Jersey! I'm not kidding. The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote a piece on it a number of years ago.

Also, check out the following link for information about the sinking.

http://divermag.com/archives/nov96/miami_wrecked.html

"The really sad thing," said Mr. Mostkoff, "was that in the two weeks that it (the yacht) was in the shallow water, divers had defaced the wreck (with anti Semitic graffiti)."

Thanks guys!

This must be the yacht MadJim speaks about:

"Model of German Admiralty yacht Grille, 1934
Builder's model; scale 1 : 50
SLR1509
Grille was built by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg and was used mainly for training naval cadets before becoming Hitler's personal yacht. He used Grille for reviewing the German fleet on several occasions and it was from her deck that Admiral Dönitz announced the Führer's death, on 1 May 1945.
After the war Grille was stripped of her guns and laid up in West Hartlepool. In 1946 she was sold to the Lebanese entrepreneur, George Arida, who had plans to turn her into a floating casino. Her sleek 377 ft hull was a familiar sight in the Mediterranean until she was taken to the United States a year later. In 1951 she was wrecked at Bodenstown, New Jersey, and scrapped.

The model has largely been in store since the Museum acquired it in 1947 as war reparation. Although in need of some restoration, it is of sufficient historic interest to be temporarily displayed."

I'm trying to verify the yacht you posted Thorfinn, H. C. Stülcken & Sohn is today part of Blohm & Voss? Well there has to be a register of yachts produced at german shipyards. The design of Aviso Hela looks like Aviso Grille, guess Hitler liked the sea when "reviewing the German fleet on several occasions" and ordered one of his own.
Thorfinn you enjoy sailing?

I was just reading an article on the auctioning of Nazi items and it said that Hitler's binoculars from his yacht were recently auctioned off for a couple thousand dollars. That picture looks like a cruise ship - it's huge!

I've never seen a photo of Hitler on a yacht. Anyone have one?

Didn't the US Coast Guard get a ship from Germany and turn it into a school ship? Maybe I'm mistaken.

Yeah, the U.S. acquired a sailing ship, (I want to say it was named Horst Wessel, but I'm not sure) and it became the U.S. Coast Guard ship Eagle.

From what I've heard, Hitler was prone to seasickness. I've never heard anything about him on board a yacht- this is all news to me. I know Eva had a boat at the Koningsee, but it was a ski boat and Hitler never went out on it.

When I read that I immediately thought of the image below of Hitler with his sister Paula, but on reflection it's not clear they are on a ship - it could be a pier. The second image is a postcard from:

http://www.geocities.com/selsoe/deb648c.jpg

Anyone know what occasion this was - it looks like a review of the fleet or pehaps commisioning of a presitge battleship like Bismark in which he took special interest.

Here's Hitler on the launch platform (not actually on board) of the Scharnhorst. Hitler is the one at the end, but I'm not telling you which end :D
