Thanks Juha,

The successful Finnish use of what weapon led to a parliamentary inquiry in the British House of Commons?

Two possibilties I can even think of is Molotov Coctail or ... I forgot what I thought of.

A sure bet is that this inquiry came from very left-wing mebers of Parlament.

OOPS,

Just noticed this is a recycled question; A sign of advancing age I guess.

Can't remember if the inquiry was from a right honourable member for the lunatic fringe but I doubt it since to my recollection the MP inquired as to whether His Majesty's Government had plans to put a similar weapon into service. The piece of ordnance had its origins in seaborne weaponry.

Nice to note that I'm not the only one here with similar "problems".
Anyway, thanks for "dropping" there a revealing hint

Exactly so, Juha,
And thanks for maintaining continuity,

The source of my recollections: Merilentäjät sodan taivaalla by Joppe Karhunen. Episode also mentioned in Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birger_Ek

Thanks Markus,

Seems that Blackburn Ripon code RI-150 bombing a Soviet sub M-77 on 7th January 1940 was the first such case at least in Finland.

Now another Navy related question.
Name this vessel:

If the gun at the bow at the previous photo was from the rare side as a Finnish naval gun, the same can perhaps be said about the mount at the rear deck:

Sorry, but no.
AFAIK Viipuri (and other Finnish ships) had the ex-Soviet 45mm AA version (21-K) as their armament.

Also the mg mount at the bridge roof (photo top left corner) was not of the most common Finnish Navy type:

The vessel in question started the WWII under not Finnish nor Soviet flag.

Sounds like transport ship Aunus, ex-Ilga; although the calibre of the "main battery" in the sources I've seen is given at 47 mm.
