German vehicle/tank List ~ Am I missing something??

Post by MAX_theHitMan » 12 Feb 2005 06:24

And there doesn´t seem to be a website with all of them put together. :cry:

So tell me...am I missing something from this list of mine?

I need to put my files and pictures in order.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What? No one is helping?? :roll:
I guess no one is answering me.
Looks like I have to do this job alone.
Here´s a NEW Update... :wink:
Am I wrong or you don't mention horse drawn vehicles?
Anyway an impressive list!
There are several wrong names on that list (such as Puma and Hetzer), not to mention several vehicles that were never even suggested (such as a tank destroyer or anti-aircraft tank based on the E-100, the "Pz.Kpfw.IX" and "Pz.Kpfw.X").
The mittlere Schützenpanzerwagen Sd.Kfz.251/Calliope did not really exist. The Germans did not make this version, rather the Americans setup a Calliope launcher on a wrecked sd.kfz 251.
Thanks for the advice Christian :)
Let´s not forget that most of the vehicles we now know by name, at the time did not have them. Most tanks and vehicles were given a "pet" name by their crews, just like the Allied Air force crews used to name their B-17s and other airplanes.
It´s true that some of the vehicles/tanks are paper-projects, just like some aircraft on Luft`46. But considering that they were planned out or even the thought of them came to light, I decided to add them to the list. Any list can´t be complete without some "Paper-projects" to make us wonder of what could have been. Some were started but really never finished by the time the war ended (E-100), and some might have been simply used for propaganda purposes, such is the case for the PzKpfw IX and the X tanks.
Simple paper-projects or just a mere fantasy like the “Midgard-Schlange” ( The Midgard Snake ) 8O :lol: But they make a person wonder at them.
By the way...
Thanks for that quick observation on the SdKfz 251/Calliope Bryson109 :)
With so many versions of the 251 model going around it´s very hard to pin them ALL down.
I read it somewhere that one was used to carry chickens and goats on the Eastern Front for the soldiers, I wonder if it had the designation of SdKfz.251/Chicken and Goat Carrier! :lol:
But thanks for that obervation on this particular model, I will research some more into it, and I´ll get back to you. But still, this version makes my list.
Cheers
and thanks all for your replies
The problem is, that by continuing the myths created by German propaganda, Allied "intelligence", post-war authors and model kit manufacturers, more people will become convinced that this is fact, and not fiction.
Your quite right on that my friend Christian, but I will leave that up to the really good fans of these machines to do their "Homework".
I will NOT post everything up for "free".
They will have to research those machines and write on their own lists if that machine was a (Planned project/Paper Project) or (Prototype) or as a (Propaganda scheme).
The really "FUN" part in knowing more about a certain machine is to really do your researches by yourself without having everything handed down on a silver platter. That is how I have learned about some of these WW2 things throughout my life. I already have learned how to separate the myth from reality.
Here´s something interesting...
True it was not a german modification, but still it is a conversion of an SdKfz.251
http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/pit/ ... 1-call.htm
SdKfz 251 Calliope (see picture)
Several afv wrecks with at least one 251 without its right track is cut by the American 743rd Tank Batilion, 30th Inf.Div. 7th armoured group in the area of München-Gladbach (south of Germany near Holland) in february 1945 to serve as a mount for the Calliope rocket launcher (60 tubes of 6.4"). The calliope is placed queer in the vehicle. The levitation of the craft (normal on a tank turret and gun) is done by a Pak 40.
Michel Eastes posted a message on George Bradford's AFVboard:
My father was a member of the 7th group. A breakout was anticipated and captured German track, all of which had to be towed into position, were modified. When completed these vehicles were, still towed, in company of a Calliope unit, to a place across the river Rühr, where a susspected German buildup was developing. On command, all rockets were fired and the Americans skeedaddled. The German halftracks were abandoned in place.
