This photo can be found all over internet as one of "Prinz Eugen" photos.
(for example here: http://sweb.cz/freiwilligen/DOBROVOLNICI/7divize.htm ).
But these men remind me more of a "Handschar" Division
and a couple of photos showing them crossing one bridge with wounded men in late May 1944.
Any oppinions?

(if anyone has a larger photo, collar patches could end my dilemma)

Thanks in advance,
Ivan

Hi Ivan -

You are indeed correct - it is the Handschar Division that is shown here. The photograph is one of a series that was taken in late May 1944. You can see the originals in the Bundesarchiv. The photographer was SS PK WIESEBACH.

Best regards,

George

Is this photo from Himmler's first visit, in November '43?

Zlatni ljiljan wrote:Hi,

I’m looking for information about two Handschar officers (both Sturmbannführer).

The first photo was taken in Neuhammer during the visit of Great Mufti. Who is Sturmbannführer who is introducing himself to Mufti? He wear Iron Cross and some cuff-title, probably "Prinz Eugen". I found this photo in some Zionistic web-site (tellthechildrentrue.com, I believe).

Sturmbannführer on second photo is also unknown to me. This photo is from some neo-Ustasha web-site.

So, does anyone recognize these two men?

Just a quick question. In post 27 (I think?)

Anyhow picture eight on page two. Himmlers visit to Handschar Jan twelve 1944.

That sure does look like Hans Kammler.

However, was he not promoted to Gruppenführer on Jan 30th that year? I know, just a few weeks, but?

What was he doing there?

Phil.

Except for Himmler and Gebhardt seen behind his shoulder, who are the men in this photo?

Hi,
I always wanted to send this picture. It s like a encounter of two worlds: a german with his nazi salute and a bosnian with his own. A german ubermench and a bosnian untermench  Who would you trust, if fighting in the Balkans.
The source: Andrew Mollo: Uniforms of the SS. A bosnian Moslem being issued with brand-new mountain troop clothing 1942.
