hi,

as usual, after one week witout replies, hint #1

the first damage in July, 1942, originated from a fight with soviet gunboats one of them achieving a hit on the torpedo tube causing the explosion of the pressured air tank.

... an easy one:

In my opinion one of the finest war-time air recconnaisance pictures of a German warship was taken by the famous British PRU on 26.01.1941 during a low pass flight over Brest. Which ship I am thinking about?

hi,

yes, indeed, quite a simple process of elimination
Bismarck, Prinz Eugen not yet ready and in the Baltic
Scharnhorst and Gneisenau off Norway on their way to break through into the North Atlantic
Scheer in the Indian Ocean
>> it's Admiral Hipper

hi,

ASW in the Kriegsmarine wasn't a shining success, but ..

we are looking for a sub-hunter, as successful in fact, but not in fame or decorations, as Otto Pollmann.

More than 40 years old, he went down with his ship as it was expected of a captain.

Thank you very much Polar Bear, my answer was a '''stab in the dark''.....because some six decades ago - I read his book....

In one of Kadens ''sub-kills'' there occurred two unusual things......one was physical, another was acoustic.
What where they?
