as usual, after one week witout replies, hint #1
the first damage in July, 1942, originated from a fight with soviet gunboats one of them achieving a hit on the torpedo tube causing the explosion of the pressured air tank.

ASW in the Kriegsmarine wasn't a shining success, but ..
we are looking for a sub-hunter, as successful in fact, but not in fame or decorations, as Otto Pollmann.
More than 40 years old, he went down with his ship as it was expected of a captain.
