me and my wife, have just been going through her fathers personel items, stored up in the loft since his sad death.we have come across several items dating back to his war years and we were wondering if anyone could give us any info.the item we have is an aluminiam photo frame, with what could be a horse shoe enscribed on it.it is from CAMP 13, in TOBRUK. we think a pow must of given him this as a gift/sale? my father-in-law was arthur kaley,we think he was in the medical corp. any feedback would be appricated.

Hello MrAbbeyview,

I am very interested in POW Camps in the Middle East.

I thought you might be interested in this site where perhaps you could
find some information or someone whom perhaps knows where and etc. to look for?

http://www.suezcanalzone.com/home.html

Its a British website that dates until fifties I believe and is visited by British Veterans.

I have lost the reference in the book, not in the index either. In Imperial Reckoning it says that a British man who later moved to Kenya administered all of the POW camps out of the former Radio Marina in Asmara, which was later renamed Kagnew Station and became the primo transmitter location for the Americans. This transmmitter site could easily reach every POW camp throughout Europe and Africa,Asia.

Hi my father was posted to POW camp 380 in Eygpt in 1948 and had his portrait painted by H. Preiss an inmate of the camp - does anyone have information about this artist. Thanks

My dad was in 380 Pw Camp and I have a note re dog control addressed to Capt. Coppinger, Capt. Soothill, RSM Angus, RSM Stvenson (I presume that should be Stevenson), PW Friedrich (my dad) PW Bernig and PW Thiemer from 7 June 1948. It is signed by Lt. Col. Comd. (A.W. Shirley). Does anybody know anyhting about the other POWs?
Thanks :)

There was a POW camp in Palestine, located on the hilltop of Latrun. Many German and Italian soldiers captured in North Africa were held there in 1942. There were separate sections for foreign citizens suspected of collaboration with the enemy and for Jewish and Arab militants respectively.
I have a list of a couple of hundred German POWs interned in this camp, in case anyone's looking for a name. The majority seems to consist of Air Force members.

Hello, I am looking for any informations about my grandfather, Nuccilli Giovanni, Italian. He fought in Al Alamein and was a prisoner at a the pow camp 305. I found this old photo, on the back side it says "camp 305, Suez". He was a good football player and my grandmother always said that he survived the camp thanks to that. This is the only thing I know. I hope somebody in this forum will be able to give any sort of information about this picture. My grandfather is the first one standing, from the right.
Feel free to contact me here: [email protected]
Thank you.

My Opa was held in N. Africa. His name is Walter Beynun. He was an artist as well and would trade his paintings for cigarettes.

I went through the lists of Latrun, but he's not mentioned.

Came across this one today, from an unknown camp in the Middle East:

Could anyone confirm whether the camps were wiretapped, or whether this reporting was done on the basis of fake POWs being in the camps?
