Hello All

Who can help me with this problem ,
I found in a report of mai 1944 from the
Seekriegsleitung/Adm. that the M.K.B. Notteroy
was called M.K.B. Oslofjord does anyone know
why and when the German Navy changed the
name of this batterie.

Never seen this mentioned anyhwere, so I will take a guess :)

Could it be a mix up with the artillerygroup, which in this area was called "Artilleriegruppe Oslofjord" ?
Or:
A name used only during the construction period, as seen with other heavy batteries......?

Anyway, the earliest dated document I have, says "MKB Nötteröy" written 10.10.44.
This lists 3 x S536 bettungen and a S446 firecontrolpost.
In addition:
3 Müni raume St F.H
3 Masch-raume St F.H
1 Notwasserraum St F.H
5 gruppenunterstd.(Kleinst.) St F.H

Hi

This is the first time for me too, that I heard of this
name B. Oslofjord .
All the other batteries on the list are build or they were in
buildingproces with the same name as on this list .

Hello Jos

As Erik says, I also think it is a mix up of different names of these batteries !!

There is a wide gap between these batteries, was it the only ones that was not operational at the time ?? ( "Im Aufbau" )
And, was the batteries in Northern Norway still in German hands ??

Suomi would be: Batterie Soumi, Liinahamari

Petsamo would be: MKB 2/517 Petsamo

Store Korsnes I would be: MKB 3/517 Store Korsnes I ( former HKB 31/971 )

Voldstrand would be: MKB 7/514 Voldstrand

Oslofjord ?? would be: MKB 6/501 Nötterøy

Falga, NL would be: ??????

Scheveningen Nord would be: Stp. XXXX MKB Scheveningen Nord

Zoutelande would be: ????

Schelde would be: ????

Le Havre would be: MKB Bleville La Courvee

Cap de la Chevre would be: MKB Cap de la Chevre

The name "Seezielküstenbatterie" ?? Was it replaced in 1944 by the term MKB ??

It is known, that all batteries in France, Belgium and Holland changed name in 1944 after D-Day ( correct ?? )

Hi

All the batterienames on the list are the same as the M.K.B. that
were build or planned also the guntypes are the same .
Only the name of the M.K.B. Oslofjord is not the same.
Batterie "Bleville la Courvee" is the french name not the German
name .
A lot of late build heavy Batteries have a general name and not a
place name as Suomi , Schelde , Gironde so Oslofjord is not very
strange.
I only have a German proof of M.K.B. Nötteröy from the Festungpionier-
stab 32 from 10/1944 , is there any other German proof for example
Admiral Norwegen ?
I don't think that it is a error , I think the batterie is later renamed .

Store Korsnes I would be: MKB 3/517 Store Korsnes I ( former HKB 31/971 )
By the time this list was made, the battery still served under the Heeresküstenartillerie.
The navy took over in August 1944, but they kept the old guns, 4 x 15,5cm K418(f)

MKB 6/514 Store Korsnes II had the 15cm in double mounts, but this battery was completed in February 1944... Before this list was made.....

Thanks for clearing this up

The Schwerstbatterie Oslofjord is renamed in M.K.B. Nötteröy
between Mai 1944 and October 1944 .
For the M.K.B. Store Kornes there were I and II as you know, so maybe
that it the reason for the confusion.

Hi Peter

Could be , but why not put the M.K.B. Le Havre on the last line on the drawing
with Notteroy . Also I think Rudi is not the type to do this manner of research .

Hi Jos and Peter,

I think the original drawing used by Rudy Rolf come from Bundesarchiv-Militararchiv. On the blue book "Der Atlantikwall" (Biblioverlag 1998), Rudi Rolf give a drawing on page 240 for battery Notteroy Typ S536, with the BAMA quotation : RH8/v.838.

It would be interesting to have a copy of these original German drawings, even for a comparison with Le Havre's typ.

Regards from France,

Where could I've gotten the information that the emplacements were of type S 169?
