F.N. Gerät

#1

Post by jopaerya » 17 Jul 2005, 23:00

Hello All

I found a drawing of the F.N. gerät (a static flamethrower in a bunker) from 1938 , I should
be used in B-Werken in the Westwall and could spray flames 40 meters around in a twisting motion.
Does anyone know if this F.N. gerät ever used in a B-Werke or in the Atlantik Wall , or was it
just a thing from the drawingboard and was never used???

The defenders of Eben-Emael would be jealous of this device.

Regards Jos

Nice shots!
I never saw this detail from the outside, but I can add that it still smells fuel inside that room!

What looked a little strange over there, was the way they had covered the M19 copular.
A layer of reinforced concrete looks just too "professional" to be done just for a post war sealing of the bunker.....
My guess was that the M-19 was removed some time after the fall of France, maybe for use in the Atlantikwall??
Does anyone know any facts around this??

These were certainly used in Harbour defence situations. I believe Wilson mentions them in his book (Churchill Crocodile commander) when they supported the Canadian attack on Le Harve these flame weapons were concealed in fields on the outskirts of the town – from memory they actually harboured for the night around one of these discovering it in the morning.

well jon XLH i think U are misstaking the einstossflammenwerfer or abwehrflammenwerfer for the F.N. Gerat that was used in German fortifications, the einstoss flammenwerfer was for instance used to defend resistance nests and roadblocks, and was a dug in tank for the fuel and a pipe was on it with a fuse to light the fuel.
the F.N. gerat was not used in A-wall bunkers maybe because it was to big.

I think all the weapons were removed from the Westwall (at least a great part) after 1940.
The B-werk was completely bricked up, don't know about the M19 turret though.

I have the feeling it wasn't used because the oil (or whatever is used) was way too expensive.
It was a monstrous weapon, which used a lot of materials.

I once found a drawing of a design which supposed to have been armed with a FN-Gerät.
Redrew it..

Hello All, :)

Picture taken in 2001 and 2003? of the underground made under the Plateau de l'Atalaye near Biarritz.

Aerial view of Plateau de l'Atalaye with underground complexe and M152(Ba39/Ba40)
Image

The underground is made with concrete, and there is machines room for energy, and a shaft who link an unknown bunker at the top of cliff (wooden stairs are rotten!) :(
Image

Concrete stairs link to a PC R608
Image

and an others stairs link to an SK bunker for F.N. gerät ! :D :o
Image
Image

So it s a very interresting underground.

On the other side of 'Tunnel du Rocher de la vierge", there is the M152. I can't go inside
Image

Be carreful, the caption under the picture are erroneous !!!

Bye

Maybe Waffen Revue interpreted Baustarke A and B as Type?
Besides the 420P9 (Für Einbau in B.) there's also a long version 457P01 (For Baustarke A?)
