I agree that I have stayed a little from the topic here, but still somewhat relevant.

Nice photos, Max! In particular I had never seen the one of the women working in the balloon factory--that's great!
For more information and photos of women after the war, you may be interested in this thread: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 7&t=131011
I had also never read that much information on Helene Hanfstaengl, Putzi Hanfstaengl's wife, in either Erik Larson's In the Garden of Beasts or in Hanfstaengl's own book Hitler: The Missing Years. And your photos and information on women in the anti-Nazi resistance are very relevant in disproving the "teutonic Scarlett O'Hara" stereotype of German women thrown out earlier in the thread.
Best,
~Vikki

Re: Pictures of 1930s & 40s German Women
Thanks for that Vikki
The thread you posted certainly supports your views on the role of German women ,during and particularly after the war.
Regarding women in the resistance to Hitler et al.
Have you seen the Wikipedia site List of Germans who resisted Nazism?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ge ... ted_Nazism
There are hundreds of names, many of course, are women.
If Wiki has no direct listing to a name , it is worth Googling the name and looking for the German Wiki version [in translation?]
For example there is no English page for Hertha Lindner but the German Wiki has some basic details
http://translate.google.com.au/translat ... CEQQ7gEwBA
Perhaps we should start a seperate thread on anti nazi German women.
For books on woman against fascism
http://astore.amazon.de/kaitzbach-21?_e ... 8&node=282 [German]
http://translate.google.com.au/translat ... node%3D282[English Translation]

I think that's an excellent idea. Why don't you begin it, rather than me splitting your posts from this thread to start it? I like the idea of leaving them here as a very effective closing to the subtopic of the last couple of pages.Max wrote:Perhaps we should start a seperate thread on anti nazi German women.

Re: Pictures of 1930s & 40s German Women
Hi,
Please read all and understand my lack of knowlegde of english. Women are curious "criaturas" (criatures?). They might look so weak, but they have so much strengt when needed to defend their family, country or home.
All my respect to all women who supported the wars at homefront or where it was.
with best regards
Arto

Hello Arto,
I think the word you're looking for in english is the same: "creatures".

I'd bet a lot of people here would agree with you on that.Arto O wrote:Women are curious "criaturas" (criatures?).
And I certainly would on that. They might look so weak, but they have so much strengt when needed to defend their family, country or home.

Re: Pictures of 1930s & 40s German Women
A nice photo of young women with their male friends. Note some of them are wearing bobby socks which were very popular in the 1950's & 60's
Cheers,

Re: Pictures of 1930s & 40s German Women
You know why Larry they are wearing bobby socks?
There was a lack of nylons around and if there were any
they were very expensive and the ladies kept them for good.
They wouldn't have wanted them to run.
I think the women in socks and shoes looked pretty good.

Re: Pictures of 1930s & 40s German Women
Thanks Annelie. Am I correct in saying that the use of bobby socks during the 1940's in Germany was for practical purposes whereas the wearing of bobby socks during the post war era was more of a fashion statement.Annelie wrote:You know why Larry they are wearing bobby socks?

Here is a photo of German women wearing nylons. It must have been a special occasion.

No pictures to post , but I always thought Leni Reifenstahl rock climbing barefoot was a pretty BA, if you ask me.
1 minute clip, from the excellent bio-film of her, "The Wonderful Horrible Life of Leni Riefenstahl" which can be found in its entirety on youtube also (3hours).
