I just noticed something regarding Gen. Menkel's command of 230. ID.
Bradley (and Keilig) have Gn. Albrecht Baier as "zugl. Kommandeur der 230. Infanterie-Division m.d.W.d.G.b. 10.01.1944 to 15.02.1944" while commanding 342. ID, but they show this entry AFTER he is noted as going to Führer-Reserve 15.02.1944. However, Menkel went to Führer-Reserve 10.01.1943 to 15.02.1943, when he returned to 230. ID. These are the exact dates Baier is shown as m.F.b. in 1944. Did Bradley and Keilig get the year wrong? The way Bradley shows Menkel's entry is suspicions if you take a look at it.
If anyone has the HPA Karte on Gen. Baier this may be solved.

I think it is the dates in the bio given in the post above that are wrong.

The dates for Menkel given in the HPA Card Indexes (NARA T-78 R-890) are shown below:

See also the HPA card for 230 ID (NARA T-78 R-896)

Yes, John, much appreciated. That clears it up. Those dates looked suspicious but there's no doubt now.

According to HPA PV: Contrary to the entry in Keilig, Menkel was Adjutant Stellvertretendes Generalkommando XI. Armeekorps (not XI. AK) when named Kdr., IR 73 in Feb 1940.
