Luftwaffe 1940 Unit Christmas Postcard
Luftwaffe 1940 Unit Christmas Postcard
Hello,
I just purchased this Luftwaffe Feldpost card issued to the 1940 Holliday Season. The card was mailed in Prague on December 13, 1940. But, the front of the card depicts a German bomber dropping bombs on Great Britain. Originally I thought someone in a Luftwaffe unit involved in the night bombing operations mailed it over Great Britain, but now have second thoughts after noticing the address in Prague is the same as the front of the card “1 Komp. Flug tlnw Batl. 32”. What does this mean in German and English? Could someone translate the front of the card into English for me?
Thanks,
James

1.Kp./Fluganwärterbataillon 32
1st Company/Aircrew Cadet Battalion 32. These were battalions of recruits who had graduated from basic training with the Fliegerausbildungsregimenter and were awaiting vacancies at flying training schools, etc. This one carried the same number as Flieger-Ausb.Rgt. 32 in Bohemia-Moravia, so he probably took his basic training there, too.

Flieger-Ausb.Rgt. 32
Thanks for the great translation and explanation on the postcard. So the postcard was issued for Flieger-Ausb.Rgt. 32 which is a cadet training battalion. Is this correct?

No, it appears to have been printed for 1.Kp./Fluganwärterbataillon 32. They were probably also printed separately for 2.Kp., 3.Kp., etc., and probably for other component units of Flieger-Ausb.Rgt. 32. We are getting into speculation here, so I will say no more about how far the separate printings went because I don't know.JLEES wrote:Thanks for the great translation and explanation on the postcard.
