Possibly Mj Philipp Sander. Kmdr RIR 65. He seemed to have lost his right eye but I couldn't locate much to substantiate that.

The other possibilities were Franz-Karl v Bock but he was a staff officer. Or Hans v Grothe but he was an ObstLt when awarded the PLM.

Cheers
Elwyn

Hi everybody!
I understand that the man in the picture is Carol I of Romania and he´s holding the Pour le mérite.
Could anybody tell me when did he receive this award and why?
Many thanks

Hi Fangio,

he received the award on 18 December 1877 for his command of Rumanian forces in the Russo-Turkish war. He was a Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.

Glenn
