I'm throwing this open to the widest audiance as possible, this picture is of my great uncle Gerhard Steiner, he was an austrian count and had a carreer with the US military in the 40's. Hence what I belive are american medals on his dinner jacket, what though is the neck order he is wearing? Is it an Austrian one?
Help to identify an Austro-Hungarian award please?

The award appears to be the neck ribbon and Maltese cross of the Military and Hospitaler Order of Saint Lazarus. The color of the cross and ribbon in the photo are somewhat unclear. It is likely it may be the cross and ribbon of another order The military awards on the left breast are U.S. miniatures and include a WW2 occupation award. The St. Lazarus order is an interdenominational, quasi-religious, organization which draws most of it's U.S. membership, I believe, from Anglicans/Episcopalians. It is not an hereditary order.
