7,5 cm Flak
Re: 7,5 cm Flak
Hi all,
I have some questions about German 7.5cm Flak anti-aircraft guns in the first half of the 30s.
According to the information that I have a 8.8cm Flak 18 was developed by Krupp in Sweden in the early 30s and entered service in 1933.
When the Germans developed the 7.5cm Flak 14? According to the information that I have the 7.5cm Flak 14 is the combination of a 7.5cm FK16n.A. with the carriage of a 7.5cm Krupp Flak L/60. The 7.5cm FK16n.A. was developed in the early 30's so I guess the 7.5cm Flak 14 also would be developed around the same time.
The question is: Why? At this time Germany was already developing the 8.8cm Flak18, which was much better.
It seems that these guns entered in service with Germany, at least in a self-propelled version on Krupp-Daimler KD1 trucks (kanonewagen). See http://www.network54.com/Forum/330333/m ... service%21
Later, 90 7.5cm Flak 14 guns were sold to Spain during the Civil War (towed version).
The same applies to the Krupp 7.5cm Flak L/60 and 7.5cm Rh Flak L/59. When they were developed? Probably during the early 30s. But by this time was already developing the 8.8cm Flak 18, which was much better. I do not understand the reason of these 7.5cm AA guns designs.
Many sources also say that the Krupp 7.5cm L60 was sold to Spain and Brazil, but I have not found any evidence of this.
Have anyone any ideas on these questions?
Thanks in advance. Regards Sturm78

Hi all,
Nobody has information about these questions?
Well, I have found a photo on Ebay that seems to show that the 7.5cm Flak 14 entered in service with the German army in its towed version also: two 7.5cm Flak 14 on Sd.Ah.201 trailers being towed by Krupp-Daimler KD1 trucks.

One possible reason for the continuing work on 7.5cm flak was the Versaille Treaty clause that restricted Germany to having only 7.5cm and 10.5cm guns. Most of the 8.8cm work was done outside Germany or with outside Headquartered companies, circumventing this clause. Plus not all countries would have welcomed another calibre into their inventory so the 7.5cm might be deemed a better seller. (Hindsight)

Re: 7,5 cm Flak
Thanks for your answer, Bill13.
Elude the clauses of the Versailles Treaty would be a possibility (I have tried to find the article that forbids 8.8cm AA guns but I have not found, nor tables II and III Annex to Chapter V of Versailles Treaty. Anybody??).
This could explain the projects of Krupp 7.5cm L60 and Rh 7.5cm L59, but for me it does not explain the creation of a cannon as modest as the 7.5cm Flak 14.

Re: 7,5 cm Flak
I have found reference to a 7,5 cm Flak battery under Luftwaffe control at Kjevik in january 1941. Anyone know if Luftwaffe relied on captured Norwegian 7,5 cm's or the german produced ones?
Re: 7,5 cm Flak
Hello Tormod
I could not find any information on the reused of the 7.5 Flak (n) by the Luftwaffe ,
but there were used by the Norwegian Forces in 1940 near airfields ( internet )
The other German 7.5 cm Flak guns were mainly used bt the M.Fl.A.

Re: 7,5 cm Flak
I understand that they were 2 types of 75 mm guns designed and used by Norway in 1940 (http://hem.fyristorg.com/robertm/norge/ ... rence.html): 7.5 cm L/45 M/16 (12 produced) and 7.5 cm L/45 M/32 (from Kongsberg).
The existing guns were most probably used extensively by the Norwegians in April 1940 and the barrels might have been too worn out for the Germans to consider using them in the long run.

Re: 7,5 cm Flak
Thanks for the plausible possibilities to the all three of you!
At least one thing is certain, the 7,5 cm flak guns were not put there orginally by the Norwegians, only a few MG's were present at Kjevik when it was taken by the Germans. (by a lone Ju52 low on fuel!)
